What is the ruh ?

In Islam, the ruh is often translated as "soul" or "spirit". It is believed to be the eternal, divine aspect of a person, which exists beyond the physical body and continues on after death. The ruh is thought to be a unique, individual aspect of each person, and is seen as the source of a person's consciousness and their ability to make moral choices. In Islamic teachings, the ruh is considered to be a gift from Allah, and is seen as a source of life and a force that animates the body.
